Whole-Home Repiping in San Tan Valley, AZ

A repipe is the largest plumbing decision most homeowners ever make, and it is the one where bad advice costs the most. So let us be direct: most San Tan Valley homes do not need one. The tract homes built after 2000 have decades left in them if you soften the water and fix leaks properly.

Repiping Services in San Tan Valley

What you need to know about repiping services here

The houses that do need one fall into clear categories. Homes with two or more pinhole leaks in the same copper system. Polybutylene-era homes in Florence, Apache Junction and southeast Gilbert, built between 1978 and 1995 with the gray plastic pipe that fails at the fittings. Galvanized-steel homes in Coolidge, Superior and older Casa Grande where the interior of the pipe has scaled down to the diameter of a pencil.

If you are in one of those categories, a repipe is not an upgrade — it is the fix. If you are not, we will tell you that and quote the smaller job instead.

Signs you need us

When to call about repiping services

If any of these describe what you are seeing, it is worth a phone call — most of them get cheaper the earlier they are caught.
  • Two or more pinhole leaks in the same house

Copper that fails once from water chemistry and pressure will fail again. The second leak is the signal; the third is confirmation you have been paying to postpone the inevitable.

  • Gray polybutylene pipe with plastic or brass fittings

Common in 1978–1995 builds. It fails at the fittings and it fails without warning. Many insurers surcharge or decline homes that still have it.

  • Water pressure that dropped over the years

If the pressure at the street is fine but every fixture in your house is weak, the restriction is inside your walls. Scale narrows the effective diameter of a pipe until a half-inch line flows like a quarter-inch. See [low water pressure causes and fixes](/blog/low-water-pressure-causes/).

  • Discolored water when a fixture has sat unused

Rust or sediment in the first draw points to galvanized steel corroding from the inside out.

  • Pipes that bang or hammer

Sometimes an arrestor problem, sometimes a symptom of a system under too much pressure — which is also what drives premature pipe failure. We check static pressure on every repipe estimate.

What you get

What a whole-home repipe includes

A fixed-price scope with every fixture listed and every wall opening marked before day one — so a difficult day in your attic is our problem, not a change order.
  • A walkthrough mapping every fixture, hose bib, laundry box, refrigerator line, water heater and softener loop
  • A marked plan showing exactly where drywall will be opened, approved by you before work starts
  • Plastic sheeting, floor protection and a contained work path from the attic access to the door
  • New PEX-A trunk and branch lines run overhead through the attic and down interior walls to each fixture
  • Expansion fittings with no open flame in your attic, correct support spacing, UV shielding and insulation on hot runs
  • The whole system pressurised and held before anything closes up
  • Permit pulled and inspection coordinated — unpermitted work becomes a disclosure problem when you sell
  • Old under-slab and in-wall lines capped and abandoned in place
  • Water restored every evening, and the work sequenced bathroom by bathroom so you always have a functioning one
  • Drywall patched, taped, textured to match knockdown or orange peel, and primed — with paint left to you for exact colour matching

PEX or Copper for a Desert Repipe?

We install both. Here is how we advise, based on what actually happens to pipe in a San Tan Valley attic.

PEX-A / PEX-BType L Copper
Resistance to our water chemistryImmune — no pinholes, no interior corrosion, no scale bonding to the wallVulnerable to pinholing over time, especially on the hot side
Attic heat performanceRated well above summer attic temperatures; must be shielded from direct UVUnaffected by heat, but expands and contracts and can tick against framing
Fittings and jointsFewer joints per run; expansion or crimp fittings, no open flame in your atticSoldered joints, more of them, torch work in an insulated space
Labor and costLower — faster installs, smaller access holes, less drywall to repairHigher material and labor cost
Water flow feelSlightly smaller inner diameter per nominal size; we upsize where it mattersExcellent flow characteristics
Typical service life here50+ years with correct installation20–40 years depending on water chemistry and pressure
How PEX and copper compare in San Tan Valley conditions.

For most homes here we recommend PEX-A with expansion fittings, run overhead through the attic with proper insulation and UV protection. It is the material least affected by the exact conditions that killed the original system. We still run copper where a homeowner wants it or where exposed sections need the look and rigidity — for example the visible risers in a garage or mechanical room. The longer comparison lives in PEX versus copper repiping in desert heat.

What a Whole-Home Repipe Actually Involves

The honest version, so nothing on the schedule surprises you:

  1. 1Walkthrough and plan. We map every fixture, every hose bib, the water heater, the softener loop and the refrigerator line, then mark exactly where drywall will be opened. You approve the map before day one.
  2. 2Protect the house. Plastic sheeting, floor protection and a contained work path from the attic access to the door.
  3. 3Run the new system. New trunk and branch lines through the attic and down interior walls to each fixture. Water is off during working hours and back on every night — you are not without water overnight.
  4. 4Pressure test and inspect. The new system is pressurized and held before anything closes up, and inspected where the permit requires.
  5. 5Tie in and abandon. Fixtures are transferred to the new system; the old under-slab or in-wall lines are capped and abandoned in place.
  6. 6Patch and texture. Drywall repaired, taped, textured to match. We match knockdown and orange peel — the two textures on nearly every home in this town — and prime the patches. Final paint color match is usually the homeowner's call.

Polybutylene: The One That Cannot Wait

If your home was built between 1978 and 1995 — and much of Apache Junction, Florence and southeast Gilbert was — check under a sink for gray, flexible plastic pipe about the diameter of copper, usually with a stamp reading PB2110.

Polybutylene degrades from the inside when exposed to chlorinated water, and it typically fails at the fittings, without warning, at full line pressure. Insurance carriers know this. Many will not write a new policy on a poly home, and some that will exclude water damage from the plumbing system entirely. If you have it, replacing it is not a maintenance project — it is loss prevention.

How Long You Will Be Living With It

A single-story San Tan Valley home with two or three bathrooms is typically a two to three day repipe, plus a day for drywall patching and texture. Two-story homes and larger floor plans in Encanterra or Pecan Creek run three to five days. You stay in the house the entire time. Water is restored each evening, and we work bathroom by bathroom so you always have a functioning one.

Cost is driven by fixture count, not square footage — a 2,400 square foot home with two baths costs less to repipe than an 1,800 square foot home with three baths and a wet bar. Our whole-home repipe cost guide breaks down the real variables.

How we work

Our repiping services process

No surprises, no mystery. Here is exactly what happens from the phone call to the walkthrough.
  1. 1

    Diagnose before we sell

Static pressure test, visual inspection of accessible pipe, review of your leak history and, where useful, a look inside a section of the existing line. Plenty of these visits end with 'you need a PRV and a softener, not a repipe.'

  2. 2

Fixture-by-fixture scope and a fixed price

You get a written scope listing every fixture, every wall to be opened and every material. Fixed price, not time and materials, so a difficult day in your attic is our problem and not your invoice.

  3. 3

    Permit and inspection

We pull the permit where required and coordinate the inspection. A repipe done without a permit is a disclosure problem when you sell.

  4. 4

    Install, test, tie in

New system installed overhead, pressure tested and held, then each fixture transferred. Old lines capped and abandoned. Water back on every evening.

  5. 5

    Patch, texture and walk through

Drywall patched and textured to match, jobsite cleaned, and a walkthrough at every fixture with you before we ask for final payment. Written warranty on labor and manufacturer warranty on materials.

What it costs

What drives the price of repiping services

We do not publish flat prices for work nobody has looked at — that is a guess dressed up as a quote. Here is what actually moves the number, so you can read any estimate you receive.
  • Number of fixtures and bathrooms

The single biggest driver. Every sink, tub, shower, toilet, hose bib, laundry box and refrigerator line is a termination point that has to be run and tied in.

  • Single story versus two story

Two-story homes require vertical chases and more wall openings, which adds both plumbing labor and drywall repair.

  • Material choice

PEX-A versus copper is a meaningful cost difference on material and a larger one on labor. We quote both when you want to compare.

  • Attic access and insulation depth

A walkable truss attic with good clearance is straightforward. A low-clearance attic packed with blown insulation is slower, hotter and harder — and in July it is genuinely brutal work.

  • Drywall and texture restoration

Included in our quotes as patch, texture and prime. Full-room repainting is not, because most homeowners prefer to handle paint on their own schedule.

  • Add-ons worth bundling

Pressure-reducing valve, softener loop, new angle stops and supply lines, and hose bib replacement all cost far less done during a repipe than as separate visits later.

Why Economy Plumbers

Why San Tan Valley homeowners call us for repiping services

Licensed, bonded and insured Arizona plumbing contractor. 20+ years of combined plumbing experience, dispatched from 2769 E Combs Rd — and 4.9★ from 168 customers who mostly mention the same things.
  • We talk most people out of it

Post-2000 tract homes have decades left with a softener and proper leak repair. A repipe is right for repeat pinholes, polybutylene and scaled galvanised — and we will tell you when you are not in one of those categories.

  • Fixed price, not time and materials

You get a written scope listing every fixture, every wall and every material, at a price that does not move. A 115-degree attic in July is our risk to carry, not yours.

  • PEX-A specified for this water

Not PEX-B with crimp fittings that restrict flow at every joint. Expansion fittings, fewer joints per run, and a material the local water chemistry cannot pinhole.

  • Texture matched, not just patched

Knockdown and orange peel are the two textures on nearly every home in this town and we match both. Most repipe complaints we hear about other companies are drywall complaints.

  • Licensed, bonded, insured and permitted

Every repipe is inspected work. Skipping the permit voids most manufacturer warranties and follows you to closing when you sell.

Repiping Services across San Tan Valley and Pinal County

These are the areas where we run this service most often, and why.
  • Repiping in Florence

Pinal County seat since 1875 with a National Historic District; pre-1995 housing makes polybutylene repipes and aging sewer laterals the core call driver.

  • Repiping in Apache Junction

Retiree and mobile-home mix at the base of the Superstition Mountains, where 1978–1995 polybutylene-era homes create high repipe and leak-repair density.

  • Repiping in Gilbert

Southeast Gilbert's 1980s–90s family subdivisions fall inside the 1978–1995 polybutylene window, making whole-home repipes the signature job on this side of the border.

  • Repiping in Morning Sun Farms

2000s boom-era stucco tract homes where hard-water scale has narrowed original pipe diameter, making low-pressure complaints the top service trigger.

Questions we get

Repiping Services FAQs

  • Three signals matter most: repeated pinhole leaks in the same copper system, gray polybutylene pipe from a 1978–1995 build, or house-wide low pressure that persists when the pressure at the meter is normal. One leak in a 2005 home is a repair, not a repipe — and we will say so.
